It's time to play! I can't wait for a little fun, it's been too long of a winter. (It might already be summer, it was 83 degrees yesterday at 6:00!) We've got some amazing events coming up!
Game Night-- Friday 7 pm in the Foyer at WRCC.
St. Louis Zoo-- Saturday 9am meet in the parking lot of WRCC. Lions, and Tigers, and Bears...Oh My!

...then you'll have to change along with us! Ok, folks. It's time to do a little spring cleaning and get rid of the clutter. We are moving from multiple methods of communication (the email list, blog, and facebook) into one neat little communication center. Gap now has a site on Meetup.com The address is http://christianmin.meetup.com/111/ Now our calendar, pictures, email, and message boards will all be in one spot that everyone will know about and can use. Anyone can post an event and send an email to the whole group (ABSOLUTELY NO FORWARDS unless they directly apply to Gap...check if you're not sure). So if you want to get together to toss around the frisbee or have a new Bible study, add it to the calendar. If you need a ride or a hand, ask on the message board. If you want to share strange pictures of Dave and Jeremy singing Pearl Jam, post them with the photos! I really do want everyone to feel like they have access to plan, plot, and connect, and this site will be a good way to facilitate that.

We will still use the old email list for a few weeks until we can thoroughly get the word out, then we'll drop it.

First of all, it was pointed out to me that there was no location given for the Andy Rice cookout! Sorry 'bout that. It is at the church, where all the picnic tables are. Rain location will be the Ramirez' house.

Well folks, even though it hasn't gotten too much warmer, it's officially Spring. What better way to celebrate than thanking God for (and maybe asking for more of...heh) the nicer weather we've had in the past week. Come join us this Friday night at 7:00 p.m. for a night of worship, prayer and new beginnings as we celebrate the start of spring.

Andy Rice is Comin' to Town

That's right, he's back! Andy Rice will be at church on Sunday! We are going to have a cookout on Sunday after 2nd service to welcome Andy home from his tour of service in Iraq. (And to wish Andy a Happy Birthday, it was yesterday!) I'm bringing a Frisbee; if anyone else wants to bring an outdoor game, great.

We will provide the burgers. I'm guessing around 20-30 people. For everyone else:

Ladies last name A-M bring a topping cheese, pickles, onion, lettuce, or tomato
Ladies last name N-Z bring a side dish
Men last name A-M bring drinks
Men last name N-Z (except if your last name is Rice) bring a dessert or burger buns .

Don't worry about lawn chairs there are lots of picnic tables. We'll have a good relaxing time enjoying good food, good fun, and celebrate God's protection over Andy! So far, the weather looks wonderful for next Sunday.

Want some extra money? If you weren't aware, I am currently working as a nanny at a house near the church. The family has already told me to take the week of Spring Break off...but they have yet to find anyone to take my place. Both of the parents work at U of I, but they are administrators and they don't have the week off. They were wondering if anyone I knew would be interested in being my sub...even if it's just for half the day those 4 days (they'll be gone Monday). Snowed in Weekend! The main idea behind Snowed in Weekend, comes from a winter retreat that Jonathan and I attended for several years with the College Park Christian Church in Bloomington. The camping ministry hosted a retreat where the entire idea was to get away from home so that you couldn't do anything but relax and have a good time. (Gee, we should do this in the middle of the Christmas Frenzy!) It will be at the Lodge at Little Galilee Christian Assembly in Clinton, IL. Cost will be approximately $15 plus bring food items to share depending on attendance. Start on Friday night and end Sunday after lunch. There will only be a few organized things like meals, Sunday service, and a few optional activities. Everything else is free time for chatting, games, puzzles, midnight sledding, hikes, whatever. Most of the "work" needs to be done beforehand for organizing and publicizing.

I need people to help with PR for the Snowed in Weekend. I need performers for a short skit/announcement, video people to go to LGCA, people to help in the foyer, people to organize parts of the weekend, people to help with sign up, and people to help with producing the flyers. So if you’re a person, then I think I have a task that is just right for you! PR stuff will need to be on 1/13-- sign up 1/27, 2/3, and/or 2/10 after one or both services. Paper items like need to be done prior. And Stuff for the Snowed in Weekend will need to be done at or before the weekend (2/15-2/17) I also need people to help with our mini-church service while on the retreat. Speaking, worship, organizing, communion, etc. Yeap. It's going to be a blast and if past experience holds true this is where "2 am friends are made" and those are the closest kind! I am going to keep sending this email out as I get volunteers, so that you can see where we still need help.

Prayer Request from Erin

I found out this morning that Samantha's grandma passed away last night. She was really close to her grandma, so this is a really hard time for her. Her great grandma just died recently, too, so this is even more difficult with her dad losing his grandma and mom within 6 months, and likewise, her grandpa has lost his wife and mother. The funeral is going to be here in town sometime at the beginning of next week, so in addition to praying for her family, pray for safe travels and such for her family to and from Champaign. So yeah, I just wanted to let you guys know so you can keep her and her family in your prayers. Thanks guys.

Hey GAP it's time to go back to school!!!!!

The church has collected a mountain o' book bags for kids in our town needing school supplies! Well, WE (GAP) have a great opportunity to serve by stuffing these book bags to the brim with pencils, crayons, pens, markers, paper, etc. I don't know about you but I love school supplies and this would be a neat way to show that GAP isn't just about fellowship with each other but that we want to also support the efforts of the church to show LOVE to our Champaign-Urbana community. Stuffing book bags shouldn't take much time out of one of your evenings...and just think...the more of us who come will make the job go even faster!

If you are interested in helping out, come to the church on Thursday, August 9, from 6:00-8:00 pm. Please also send an email to vfein4@yahoo.com and just let him know that you are coming! Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will obey my commands.” He also said that the second greatest command was to “love your neighbor as yourself”. Show Jesus to some C-U kids by coming on Thursday to help get their book bags ready for them.

Hello again. So, if you can't make it to the church by 5, you can meet us at the park. I have included a map of the area and put an X by the spot we will be at. I believe the Duncan exit out of the park will be the easiest, so if you want to park at the neon green parking lot I circled, that would be best. There will be shuttles from the parking lots out to the park, or you can walk.

Also, if it rains, which it might, we will still see about having a cookout, but at our house instead. We can still meet at the church at 5 and go from there. Let's get together for the 4th of July!!!! Come join us for a cookout before the fireworks. We will meet at the church at 5 pm, drive over in as few cars as possible, and then have some fun. We will eat and then hang out, playing Frisbee, catch, or whatever else comes to mind until the fireworks start!!!

The Why:

To support the Turkey Team (who are all members of GAP) in their mission trip to Turkey. They'll be working at a vacation camp with Christian Children who don't really have a lot of exposure to that lifestyle in a primarily Islamic county. More in info at http://turkeytrip2007.blogspot.com/.

The Details:

This will be a very eclectic and exciting show. The musical acts include, myself (Henry), Kati Ricker, Rachel Newell, John Caparoon and co. (Dan Anderson, me, Rachel, and Byron Grimes), Jeremy Pessin and co. (Wes and me). The music will include everything from all out gospel to 12 tone writing, to angry acoustic guitar music to bluegrass... AND everything in between. It's happening at 6:30 in the Worship Center. There is no cost for admission, but it is a benefit and we'd all appreciate it so much if you'd make a contribution to our cause. There will be food as well... free food :)

So please try and make it. If nothing else, it's a chance to see your friends do what they really love to do.... ROCK OUT!

The Men’s Ministry is organizing the set-up that will start at 6:30pm on Friday – only 30 min before the start of Game Night. So, come early and lend a hand with moving chairs and setting up tables.

Hey guys! I'm heading up the next worship night (Friday, March 9th) and I'm all about full inclusion worship, especially of the musical sort. If you can sing, play an instrument (whether or not it's one that you own or one that you used to play) or can beat on a drum (in time, of course) then I want to involve you in leading worship on the 9th.

Gap Ice Skating - Come on out!

I thought it would be a good time if a group of us tackled the ice arena at U of I. If you are up to the challenge, we will be going on Sunday, January 7, 2007. The arena is open from 1:30-4:00 on Sunday so I thought we could meet in the church lobby after the second service and then grab some lunch before we head over there. If you can't make it for lunch, just meet us at the ice rink at 1:30. The arena is located at 406 E. Armory Ave (Fourth St. and Armory). Admission is $5 which covers skate rental as well. If you have never been there before, it is a little chilly on the ice, so you might want to bring a scarf and gloves.

I am going to have a Christmas Party on Friday, December 15th at 7:30/8pm (after Worship Night). I will provide snacks and drinks but if you would like to bring something, please let me know! We are going to have a White Elephant gift exchange. Here's the details on that:

This is where we each bring a funny gift, typically junk you have laying around that you don't want, and exchange with each other. The way it works is we draw numbers and pick a gift from the pile. If you're lucky, you'll pick last and have your choice of anyone else's picked present or a new one. You don't have to participate but if you do please don't spend any money. This is your chance to be creative!

Game Night and Corn Maze

Hmmm...I'm 26 years old and playing Sardines, my life is great!! Well, some would say that I scream more then played. Game Night and the Corn Maze were a blast: Henry got stuck under a chair, meet the creator of telephone pictionary, and learned Skipbo Golf, which by the way has nothing to do with Skipbo or Golf. This Friday night, stop by Windsor Road Christian Church to play board games and card games with us! Bring your favorite game or just play the ones we have. Snacks are provided too, so all you need to do is come.

Brunch at the Shaw's

A big GAP thank you to Andy and Jenn Shaw for opening their home last Sunday for a delicious brunch!! Nothing tastes better after the 9am service than egg casserole, fruit salad, blueberry muffins, chocolate doughnuts, and and ... did I miss anything?

We also can't forget to thank their two well-behaved hobbits, Samwise and Rosie. Oh, did I say hobbits? I meant cats.

How many cars can we fit in the cul-de-sac?
One of them seems to be going against the flow.

Leaf Rake and Corn Maze

LEAF RAKE
It's time to jump in the leafs again! November 14th, 4pm. We'll meet at the Church parking lot bearing rakes (if you've got one). Then we will pile in the car and go find some church members willing to let us serve.

FALL CORN MAZE
Sunday, October 29th join us as we venture into a 10 Acre Corn Maze that's setup like a treasure hunt. We'll meet at the church after 2nd service and stop for lunch on the way to Rantoul.

Do you like playing board games and card games? This Friday, September 29, the WRCC Gap ministry is hosting our monthly game night at the church. We start at 7:00 pm and go until around 11:00 pm, but you can come whenever you want, and stay as long as you like!

We provide snacks and drinks and games, but you can bring a snack to share or a game to play as well. We hope to see you there!

Sunday Brunch at the Shaws

After the early service concludes, we would like to invite you over to our humble abode for a Sunday brunch which will include quiche, fruit, muffins, and coffee. We live about 3 minutes from WRCC and would like to invite you out for food and fellowship.

Also, we do have two cats. I will do my best to vacuum every nook and cranny, but those who have allergies may want to come equipped with their Claritin or preferred allergy medicines.

If we could get a general head-count by Friday night, I'd appreciate it. And if anyone has folding chairs, we could probably use them. We have, I think, 10 chairs scattered about the house and the sofa, of course, but it would be good to have some back-ups.

Saturday, September 23rd marks the beginning of one of the most fabulous seasons of the year- FALL! Many good things happen every fall- the leaves change color, you can wear sweaters, and I was born, to name a few ;)

So we are having a party to celebrate that! It will be at Hessel Park at 4:30 till whenever :) We'll eat, play football, swing on swings, scare little kids, everything FUN!

If you want to bring chips or snacks or something that would be great, but not required! I hope you all can come!!

No Serious Injuries During Canoe Outing

Actually, there weren't any injuries except to some egos, maybe, as canoes were inadvertently dumped or repeatedly paddled into the shore. That's part of the fun, though, and fun was had in multiples yesterday as a group of ten of us spent the day on Sugar Creek, near Turkey Run State Park in Indiana.

After braving the early start from the WRCC parking lot, we arrived at Sugar Valley Canoe Trips just minutes after our 10am bus to the starting point had left. Fortunately, another one was leaving at 11am, so we chatted until loading ourselves and our lunch cooler onto the bus.

As I mentioned in the first paragraph, some of us need remedial paddling, steering, and basic canoe balancing classes. What a great excuse for another day of canoeing! We had loads of fun, in spite of the fact Katie D. was almost sucked into the mud, never to be seen again and Erin C. bet against sunburn ... and lost.
